Rafael Nadal is into his 14th French Open final after prevailing over Alexander Zverev in unfortunate circumstances. The Spaniard is now only one win away from a staggering 22nd Grand Slam title. Nadal, who has battled various injuries in his career, is on the brink of creating more history.

Now, Nadal faces a tough test ahead of one of the biggest matches in the last few seasons. The former World No. 1 will hope to give it one last shot on Sunday in Paris.
Rafael Nadal talks about his injured foot
After returning this year from a foot surgery, the problem continues to hamper the 13-time Roland Garros champion. Nadal, in the post-match interview, spoke about what it would mean to win another title in Paris, “I would prefer to lose Sunday’s final and get a new foot. I would be happy with my life with a new foot.”
“Win is beautiful, but life is much more important than any title. Specially after the career that I had”, he added. The 36-year old suffers from the Mueller-Weiss Syndrome diagnosed back in 2005. Since then, he has played with painkillers and by beating the pain barrier in long matches.
What is the Mueller-Weiss syndrome?
The syndrome is a rare disease where a bone in the mid-foot region undergoes significant changes around a certain area. Due to this, the blood flow to the area reduces causing a slight adjustment to the hindfoot and severe pain on occasion.

Despite surgery, the pain has been evident on many occasions including his exit at the Italian Open to Dennis Shapovalov. Additionally, the Spaniard returned after a two-month hiatus due to a recurring rib injury.
