The tennis world has seen many great rivalries over the years. While many such rivalries have been much talked about, there have also been some battles that not many fans might be aware of. One such example is that of John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. While the former was past his peak in the late 80s, Agassi had just started off his career. As a result, the two did not feature in many battles. However, their matches were keenly fought.

The two are enjoying their retirement life after giving their all to tennis. In recent years, Pickleball has caught steam and has also involved players like McEnroe and Agassi. Here’s what the latter said about beating McEnroe.

During their professional tennis careers, both Agassi and McEnroe won two matches apiece against each other. This rivalry further extended to Pickleball Slam 1. It occurred last year and Agassi and Roddick teamed up against McEnroe and Michael Chang. The former emerged victorious in an exciting contest.

Further, the second version of the event is also coming up. This time, Agassi will team up with his wife, Steffi Graf. On the other side, McEnroe will be joined by Maria Sharapova.

Recently, Agassi appeared in The Greg Cote show. During the interview, he revealed how he was going to beat McEnroe at Pickleball Slam 2. Talking about it, he said, “I can’t think anything better than including my wife and John’s always fun to beat up on so he had a say on who he wanted his partner to be. We just kind of figured it out.”

While Agassi announced his tennis retirement long back, he has been actively involved in Pickleball. During an interview once, he made his priorities about Pickleball clear.

Agassi reveals one thing he liked about Pickleball

The American tennis legend has been a flag bearer for the sport of Pickleball. Further, he found some similarities between the two sports. As a result, Agassi has been able to adapt to it quickly.

He said, “Listen, I think pickleball and tennis can play very happily in the same sandbox. I’ve seen pickleball take tennis clubs that were on the verge of going under and bring them alive again. Tennis is, I think, the most demanding racquet sport that exists. What can you do at 50-plus years old and still get better at? I love to say this about pickleball.”
