When Roger Federer burst onto the tennis scene, he had a playful, rebellious, and rock-and-roll feel about him. However, as he aged and matured, he left that rebellious look behind and embraced a more classic approach to fashion. The transition also reflected how he had grown into a gentleman on the court. It also happened to be a reflection of the evolution of his playing style, which was gradually doing away with its rough edges and getting more refined with each passing season.
Right now, the Swiss Maestro is gearing up for the 2023 Met Gala. Federer is among the event’s high-profile co-hosts, and fans can’t wait to see how he dresses up for what’s sure to be one of his biggest off-court moments.

Federer’s last appearance at the Met Gala was in 2017. At the time, the event was dedicated to Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo for the stellar work he did with his label Comme des Garcons, which is based in Paris.
Federer showed up in a Gucci tuxedo, which oozed class but at its core, was quite simple, at least when viewers caught a glimpse of it from the front. However, it was when the legend turned back that the world knew that he still is playful and rebellious at heart. The tuxedo’s back featured a rhinestone-made cobra.
In a 2022 interview with GQ, Federer looked back on his on-court appearance during the period of his emergence. “I don’t understand how I used to wear extra-large, but that’s how we used to dress”. Federer also revealed that it was two of his tennis idols who inspired his preference for baggy clothing. “Sampras and Agassi used to wear this baggy stuff.”

Federer also mentioned in the interview how, during his younger years, he wanted to look “big and buff”. However, he acknowledged that he wasn’t very muscular in reality. The legend went on to say, “Now we look stronger and slimmer because of the way we wear it.”
Furthermore, the Swiss icon stated, “That’s where the power of clothes is so important: it really can change your entire look.” All in all, what Federer will wear for Monday’s Met Gala is still a secret, but one thing’s for sure, it will turn heads.
