‘People Mistake That for Cockiness’ – Taylor Fritz Rushes to Holger Rune’s Defence as He Sheds Light on the Dane’s ‘Big Ambitions’

Holger Rune might not have had great luck at the Nitto 2023 ATP tournament, but he has his colleague Taylor Fritz’s back. Now the tennis fraternity is not unknown to Rune’s ambition of getting into the world’s top three tennis stars. While many might find it overconfident, Fritz believes something completely different about this one of his top opponents.

Rune had a moderate experience this season as he played in the French Open’s quarter-finals and the Australian Open’s fourth round. However, he couldn’t bag any significant victory in 2023. Despite that, one of his biggest opponents and Serbian tennis legend, Djokovic saw him in the next big three of tennis. Now, his colleague Taylor Fritz also dropped some exclusives supporting Rune’s tennis ambitions.

Taylor Fritz shares his bits supporting Holger Rune’s goals of becoming one of the top three tennis players globally

In his recent Twitch stream, Fritz revealed that he never found Holger Rune over-ambitious. This tennis star revealed that he previously played doubles with Rune and the latter seemed “chill” on the court. Apart from his ambitions, Rune has also been criticized by Wawrinka and Rudd. The former accused Rune of an immature on-court attitude and the latter’s father dismissed Rune’s claim of Rudd shouting at his face.

Following this, Rune seemingly appeared rude to the fans. However, Fritz came to Rune’s rescue as he commented- “Honestly, I like Holger. I have never had any issues with Holger. We have played doubles. Chill. I don’t think there are any issues. I think he has big expectations and big ambitions and I think people mistake someone saying that they want to be the next Big 3 or I mean you do these great things,”

Not only that but Fritz further added that Rune’s attitude is nothing like being overconfident. It is not a bad thing to have big dreams and work harder to accomplish them. Fritz said- “I think people mistake that for cockiness, but like so what? I don’t think people understand that if you want to be successful in anything you need to actually believe it and you do need have some of that kind of arrogance and confidence in you. I’m cool with him, I got no problem,”

What does Djokovic think about Holger Rune’s future in professional tennis?

While Rune is criticized over his ambitions, the world’s number-one tennis legend, Novak Djokovic showed great faith in the player. While Rune couldn’t stand against him in the group stage of the Nitto ATP tournament this year, Djokovic still believed Rune would take place in the “next big three” of tennis.

Bringing Rune into the same stature as Sinner and Alcaraz, Novak said- “Rune, Alcaraz and him [Jannik Sinner] are the big three, next big three, if you want to call them. They are going to carry this sport. I will hang on for as long as I feel like hanging on, as long as I’m… I think as long as I’m able to win against them on the big stage, I’ll still keep going because why stop if you’re still winning the biggest titles,Once they start to, yeah, kick my butt, then I will consider probably having a little break or maybe a permanent break from professional tennis,” 

There is no doubt that Holger Rune has the potential to do something great in his tennis career. Now that Djokovic and even his rival, Taylor Fritz saw something talented in this player, fans can expect to see a great reign of Holger Rune in the future. What do you think?
