Former World No. 1 Andy Murray has decided to tie up and work with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to help the children stuck in Ukraine. The player has also decided to donate his prize money for the rest of the year toward these children to help them get medical, educational, and rehabilitation assistance.

As for his developments in the sport, Murray has been struggling to get back his vintage form, since winning his last title in 2019. The British player has recently paired up again with his former coach Ivan Lendl. The two have previously worked together twice. Their reunion has brought hope to the player and his fans around the world that he can still make a comeback and rise to the top once again.

On 8th March, Andy Murray took to his Twitter, announcing his working with UNICEF. The player put up a series of tweets, explaining the whole situation and the cause for which he will be working.

Andy Murray extends support towards the children in Ukraine

In the first Tweet, Murray focused on the current situation of children in Ukraine. Making the announcement, the current World No. 88 brought to light one of the areas the pioneer agency will be working towards with these funds.

His Tweet read, Over 7.5m children are at risk with the escalating conflict in Ukraine, so I’m working with UNICEF UK to help provide urgent medical supplies and early childhood development kits.”

Such geopolitical conflicts not only affect the children’s mental state, but also have a major effect on their educational progress. In the next tweet, Andy focused on the importance of education for children. Elaborating on the matter, Murray explained how UNICEF will help these children continue their education and also work towards the rehabilitation of the damaged schools.

It’s vital education continues, so UNICEF is working to enable access to learning for displaced children, as well as supporting the rehabilitation of damaged schools, together with replacement equipment and furniture,” he said.

The current situation in Ukraine has been troublesome for the children stuck in the war-hit country. Showing his concern for the children, Andy Murray announced that he will donate his prize money for the rest of the year to help these children. He also urged everyone to come forward and donate to the cause.

He wrote, “I’m going to be donating my earnings from my prize money for the rest of the year, but anyone in the UK can support UNICEF’s humanitarian response by donating to our appeal by following this link. Children in Ukraine need peace – now.”

Murray in 2022

Andy Murray started his 2022 season with a first-round loss at the ATP 250 Melbourne Open. Stepping up his game, he next entered the Sydney ATP 250 tournament, ending as a runner-up in the tournament. However, the rise was short-lived as he faced consecutive second-round exits in Australia, Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai.
