Former world number one and twenty-time grand slam champion Roger Federer, who lost his opening round match against Pablo Andujar at the Geneva Open, had decided to stay back in Geneva and train harder for the French Open next week.

The Swiss was accompanied by the Frenchman Gael Monfils for the practice session today. The duo had a lengthy practice match, where Elina Svitolina was also present along with Monfils.

After the practice session got over, Svitolina asked Roger to try a challenge she did a year ago. The tweet, posted by Monfils, had the caption, “When ur girl doesn’t feel good on Monday”, where the Ukrainian was seen hitting balls at the Frenchman with her racquet.

Svitolina shared a funny video of Roger Federer hitting balls at Gael Monfils

During the practice session with Federer today, Elina Svitolina encouraged the Swiss Maestro to perform the same stunt against the Frenchman.

I know it’s a big chance for you, but try to relax your arm and you can do it”, said Svitolina before Federer started hitting the balls at Monfils.

While all the balls hit by the Ukrainian last year failed to hit Monfils, Federer decided to do something different this time. Even though the first two shots were a miss, the third shot went right into the Frenchman.

As Monfils was down, Svitolina mentioned, “Don’t try this at home” to the viewers.

Federer was laughing and apologized to the Frenchman for the mishit. “Behind the scenes, this one doesn’t count”, added the Swiss Maestro. The twenty-time grand slam champion later posted a tweet inviting Monfils to try this stunt again.

Sorry, Gael Monfils. I am out of rhythm. We try it again in a few weeks”, wrote the Swiss.

It was a light-hearted moment shared by the three as they are preparing themselves for the upcoming French Open. While Federer decided to not play any tournament in the mean time, Monfils announced his participation at the Belgrade-2 event, where he might face Novak Djokovic in the finals.
