Nick Kyrgios is all geared up for the US Open. He has been performing really well on the hard court and is on the strife to win his first grand slam at the US Open. However, he gets homesick and misses being around his family. Despite his aggressive outbursts, the Australian player has confessed his love for his family and friends.

So, it did not come as a shock to anyone when he expressed his feelings about being homesick.

Nick Kyrgios talks about the effects of being away from home

The Australian player has been performing astoundingly well in 2022. He has had a good start to the year by winning the Australian doubles title with his partner Thanasi Kokkinakis. Apart from that, he talked about being away from his loved ones. He said, “I’m struggling with it, to be honest.” He accepted being homesick and said, “I think a big part of me would love to just be home with my girlfriend and see our families and have that comfortable type of lifestyle.”

However, he also acknowledged his career and said, “But this is just what I do. It’s fun at times obviously going to new places, meeting new people, seeing the world.” Kyrgios misses being at home for spending little moments with his family. He said, “You miss crucial moments of life. Obviously, I’m a tennis player who doesn’t play a heavy schedule because of that reason.” He prioritizes his family over everything.

Kyrgios said, “I don’t want to miss those moments. Especially when they’re significant moments like my mum’s birthday, when she’s not healthy, in and out of the hospital.” Kyrgios’ mother has not been keeping up well for a long time so he likes to be around her whenever he can.

Kyrgios’ aim at the US Open

The Wimbledon grand slam finalist is not planning to lose out on a chance to win his maiden grand slam title this year. He reached the finals of Wimbledon, however, could not defeat Novak Djokovic.

Furthermore, his performance on the hard court has been impeccable. He won both singles and doubles titles at the Citi Open. Kyrgios will meet the defending champion, Daniil Medvedev, in the fourth round of the US Open.

He acknowledges his presence at the US Open and his passion to do well on the tour. He said, “I’m at the US Open. I’m one of the favorites. I’m expecting myself to do well.” The Australian player highlighted the downside of being from Australia. He said, “Only Australians understand that. No other tennis player understands what it’s like to be on the road for that long.” Kyrgios avoids talking about it a lot because “it makes you sad a little bit.”
