Every tennis fan witnessed the epic moment when Rafael Nadal won the French Open title last year, thanks to his hard work and determination. But as the French Open draws near this year, there is one tennis player who thinks he might have defeated the King of Clay at the previous tournament. It was none other than the Spanish tennis legend’s semifinal opponent in Paris last year, Alexander Zverev. The German suffered a horrific ankle injury when the match was poised evenly and had to withdraw.

After learning about Alexander Zverev‘s perspective on how he could have beaten the Spaniard last year, Roger Federer’s former coach, Ivan Ljubicic, couldn’t keep it to himself. He lambasted the German tennis player for his ‘trash-talk’, which came nearly a year after the tournament.

The Swiss Maestro’s former coach has responded to the German tennis player’s claim that he could have defeated the 22-time Grand Slam champion if he hadn’t suffered an injury last year. Going back in time, last year during the clay-court major tournament, the 25-year-old tennis player locked horns with the Spaniard in the semi-finals. But unfortunately, in the third set, Zverev suffered an ankle injury that forced him to retire from the match and the tournament. He recently claimed that if it was not for that injury, he had a good chance of beating Nadal.

After hearing his perception after almost a year, the former Croatian tennis player took to Twitter and laughed at his argument, calling the German tennis player arrogant for his strange argument that showed up after almost a year.

He wrote, “Nobody wants to sound arrogant but everyone is claiming to have almost won Roland Garros last year 😂. Love it!! On with trash talk!”

Not only that, but he also sarcastically noted that practically everyone was boasting about having come close to winning the championship the previous year.

Furthermore, the German tennis player revealed last year why he has never defeated Nadal or Djokovic at a Grand Slam event.
