Stefanos Tsitsipas produced an indomitable performance against Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open quarters. The youngster from Italy had no chance against Tsitsipas, who was unstoppable on serve and forehand. Tsitsipas will now await the winner of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev to face in the semis.

The road to Australian Open semis hasn’t been easy for Tsitsipas. After reaching the French Open final last year, the Greek star had a disappointing second half and towards the end of the season, he underwent an elbow surgery in Switzerland.

Coach Patrick Mouratoglou is all praise for Stefanos Tsitsipas for his Australian Open performance

Praising Stefanos’ efforts at the ‘happy slam’ this year, Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou took to Twitter and wrote, “Amazing performance from Stef to play that level in a GS just a few weeks after an elbow surgery! What a competitor! With him I always feel that the occasion makes the player.”

It’s a known fact that Tsitsipas trains at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy and it was the French coach who identified the talent in Tsitsipas first and provided him the needed facilities to turn him into a world-class athlete.

Against Jannik Sinner today, Tsitsipas fired on all cylinders and completely demolished the Italian’s game. Sinner had his moments but he was clearly overshadowed by the Greek. It was Tsitsipas’ best performance in the tournament so far and it came at a much-needed stage for him.

Tsitsipas could meet Daniil Medvedev in the semis of Australian Open

Stefanos’ semi-final opponent at the Australian Open could be either Daniil Medvedev or Felix Auger-Aliassime. Both the players faced Tsitsipas in the past and have the experience of defeating him. However, the Greek star would be wary of Medvedev as their head-to-head record is in favor of the Russian.

If Stefanos Tsitsipas can continue the same aggression he displayed on Rod Laver Arena against Jannik Sinner today, he will definitely have a bright chance of making it to the finals and even winning his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 Australian Open.
