Over the years, there has been a growing debate about the greatest of all time or ‘GOAT’ in men’s tennis. The ‘Big Three’ comprising Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have often been the center of this debate. While the Spaniard took a lead by winning 22 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic and Federer trail him with 21 and 20 major titles, respectively.

Yesterday, Federer announced that he’ll retire after playing next week’s Laver Cup. Further, it marks the end of a wonderful career for the Swiss maestro, that has seen him play at the highest level consistently for over 20 years. As Federer announced the end of his career, Rolex paid an emotional tribute to him.
What did Rolex say about Roger Federer?
Rolex, with whom the Swiss maestro has had a long-term association, took to Twitter to share a heartfelt note for him. The luxury watch manufacturer posted a video of some of Federer’s greatest moments along with a voiceover that could be heard saying, “How exactly do we measure greatness? By the number of titles? The number of Grand Slams? Perhaps. But there are certain things that numbers can’t convey.”
Further, it added, “The beauty he instilled in the discipline, enriching and perfecting his game year after year. His grace and elegance, on and off the court, which made him one of the most revered athletes of our time. Numbers will never fully encompass the extent of his legend, continually growing, nor the breadth of his legacy, perpetually inspiring. For his is a greatness that can never be measured.”

Federer’s last tournament
In the retirement note shared by Federer on social media, he revealed that the Laver Cup next week will be his final ATP event. Further, along with him, the likes of Djokovic and Murray will also feature for Team Europe at the tournament.

Federer last played at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships where he suffered a quarterfinal defeat. He lost against Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. Following this, he suffered a knee injury that has kept him away from tennis since.
