Djokovic's 90s nostalgia in China—Is he the most entertaining player in tennis history?

It’s no surprise that tennis houses several power couples. But, there’s nothing quite as adorable as the chemistry between Novak Djokovic and his wife, Jelena Djokovic. The Serbian star touched down in China for the prestigious Shanghai Masters, marking his maiden attendance at the event since 2019. Upon arrival, Nole indulged in fun activities to blow off steam. Naturally, the Serb is looking to explore the nation, and with it, intrigue himself with its developed aesthetics.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is eying to rectify his impeccable resume after suffering a shock third-round defeat at the hands of Alexei Popyrin at the US Open. Looking to thrash any competitor who stands in his way, Djokovic will remain focused on cashing in his £820,000 winners’ cheque and bagging his fifth title in China. Djokovic has won the ATP 1000 Masters event in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018. If he successfully concludes his quest this time too, the Serb will pocket his 100th career title on the Tour, inching him closer to ‘Swiss Maestro’ Roger Federer‘s jaw-dropping tally of 103. Before commencing the Asian hardcourt swing, the 37-year-old took a trip around town, eliciting his wife to drop a delightful reaction to his adventures.

Taking to his official Instagram handle, the former World No. 1 posted a string of photos in collaboration with his sponsor ‘Lacoste’. The snaps showcased Nole having a ball in Shanghai, with photos of him posing with a bicycle, shopping for candies, and flaunting his all-green and glossy tracksuit. Having witnessed the Serb’s latest merchandise with the clothing giant, his wife Jelena Djokovic commented “90s on, hahaha” with a set of cute emojis under his post.

For those unaware, Djokovic’s wife has been one of his strongest pillars of support over the years. The mother of two has never shied from cheering Nole during his endeavors. However, now their children are often seen in the box too. Nole is all about family. The 37-year-old repeatedly celebrated his victories at Wimbledon by pretending to play the violin to honor his daughter, Tara, who spent the summer learning the instrument.

He said, “I am in China after five years and I miss you. I’m so sorry, really sorry that we didn’t meet at the airport yesterday. I was sad when I found out, I didn’t know you were there. They took me to another exit. I hope to see many of you in Beijing or Shanghai soon. I’m excited to be in China, mostly because of you who have been following me for years. I love you.”
