Novak Djokovic is in search of his 25th Grand Slam title and guess what? He has also now brought in his family to cheer him up on his mission to clinch his 11th AO title. His wife Jelena along with their two kids, Stefan and Tara have traveled all the way to ‘Land Down Under’ to root for their dad. Speaking of their presence with him during the Australian tour, Djokovic previously said, “This is the first time my family comes with me, my children, my wife [to Australia].” His family was spotted in the stands during his previous matches. However, an interesting thing was noticed during his recent match against Carlos Alcaraz. What was it?

Well, possibly in order to avoid more exposure of Stefan and Tara, Novak Djokovic’s team has now come up with a very smart solution. During the match, there was an instance when we saw someone from his team covering the camera lens in the player’s box with a piece of cloth! As soon as this clip went viral on social media, several fans came out in numbers to share their thoughts on putting these types of cameras in the players’ box.

Avoiding ‘unnecessary’ attention! This incident reminds us of a moment from 2023. During that time, several fans on the internet were left fuming after seeing Novak Djokovic being stopped by a group of people for photographs outside the Ostrog Monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church. His kids who had then got baptized were also with him at that time. The video clip of fans surrounding the family angered some people on social media as they were seen criticizing it by calling it a lack of courtesy from the people around. Seeking a bit of privacy in the world of fame can be a difficult task at times, isn’t it?

In 2025, Novak Djokovic didn’t have a great experience in Melbourne so far. Previously we saw a “drunk” heckler causing a few troubles for him during his match against Tomas Machac. Djokovic even addressed that guy from the crowd when he saw him yelling at him during his on-court interview.

He joked at him and said, “Sorry mate I’ve a wife. We can have a drink though, Maybe you’ve had a few already. Him and I were going back and forth for quite a while. Actually, I’m happy to have a drink with him now that the match is over. I think we can reflect nicely on what we said to each other during the match (laughs).” Then another interesting event took place after his match against Jiri Lehecka. He didn’t want to make a longer stay during the post-match chat with Jim Courier.

We saw how the stadium was filled with jeers and boos when he said bye and goodnight while leaving the court. Although we learned about the real reason behind that later on, still this cheeky act from his team to cover the camera makes the fans wonder if these successive controversies had any role to play behind this act. Seeing his team shielding his kids makes us jump to our next question: Is Novak Djokovic a strict parent?

“My children still don’t have a cell phone” – Novak Djokovic

Being the kid of a 24-time Grand Slam champion comes up with a different set of challenges! Like what we saw recently, the cameras are always going to be on you and the question of following the footsteps of their parents will always be around the corner. What does Novak Djokovic think about guiding his kids in this beautiful sport?

Well, previously in an interview Novak Djokovic revealed that he is the one who always pushes his children to play sports. He had then even admitted that he would ideally like them to fall in love with playing tennis, however, he doesn’t mind what sport they choose as long as they are active. Then during the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, he said, “They’re starting to love tennis more and more. I don’t know if I have the nerve to keep going with my coaching career with my son. There are a lot of beautiful things in life.. but if you really wish to keep going, I’ll be there for you.

Talking about guiding and parenting his kids, last year he revealed how he and his wife, Jelena argue about not giving their kids cell phones. During the Davis Cup last year, he gave an interview and during the interview, Novak Djokovic revealed, “My children still don’t have a cell phone, my wife and I argue (about it). The kids complain, ‘At school, everyone has one except us’. It’s not easy and this is reflected on other levels as well. If everyone does something, the herd behaves like this, you have to follow them. Well, it doesn’t have to be like that. This is where I think we differ from others.

The family along with a group of die-hard Nole fans are currently cheering for the Serbian superstar in his QF match against Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz won the first set by 6-4 and Novak Djokovic is currently trying to make a comeback in the second set. Can the 10-time AO champion pull things in his favor in this epic encounter at the 2025 AO?
