The grass court season has started to sow seeds of anticipation in the minds of the fans. While Novak Djokovic‘s presence currently remains in a situation of doubt because of a recent injury, all the eyes are on his run for an Olympic medal. Analyzing his previous attempts, the Serb’s massive dominance was hindered by one name: Juan Martin Del Potro.

Recently, a post on Reddit captivated the attention of fans. A three-minute-long video depicted a moment in which the former pro hindered Novak Djokovic’s run for the Olympic medal. Although he is no longer present to remind the Serb of the moments when he managed to dominate the courts, the world still remembers him for the amazing levels presented in one of the glorious events.

“Was rewatching some classic Delpo matches. The Djoko-Delpo rivalry and their post match hugs have all my heart,” the caption said, mentioning how the former pro stayed adorably grounded even after taking down one of the big threes. This post came just days after Novak Djokovic had to go through surgery. During his run for the title at Roland Garros, Nole had to push his levels in two back-to-back five-setters. As clay has never been his forte, the Serb experienced uneasiness in his knee during the fourth-round showdown against Francisco Cerundolo.

The world later found out that it wasn’t anything regular but a meniscus tear and therefore the Serb was forced to end his run, withdrawing from the clay-court major. While his presence in Wimbledon is surrounded by dark clouds, it still remains to be seen if he will be able to make it. The post appeared to be normal until fans came forward to wholeheartedly remember the former pro for his Olympic runs.

Fans back Delpo for his strong challenge against Novak Djokovic

The post contained a clip that was a lot more than just a showdown recorded in tennis history. While it gave fans a flashback of one of the most memorable matches the game has ever seen, they couldn’t stop themselves from remembering the ATP star. The moment when he stopped Novak Djokovic from earning Olympic medals was the main topic that the clip brought up. Coming up with reactions to that, fans revealed that they will miss his presence in Paris.

A fan, remembering the former pro’s massive run at the London Olympics back in 2012, said that they miss Dep Potro’s presence. “I loved his run in the 2016 Olympics when he beat Novak & Rafa to get the silver medal after winning bronze in London 2012,” he wrote. It was back in London that he attained immense glory by ending both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal’s respective runs.

“Nadal/Delpo Wimbledon 2018 was another great match with a nice hug at the end of it,” another fan wrote, remembering the historic showdown in which the Spaniard somehow managed to attain a position in the semi-finals. Even after facing a defeat, Del Potro came out to be known as the fans’ favorite. “Seems like everyone loved Delpo,” the comment further said.

A fan found solace in the fact that Del Potro offered words of respect even after dominating over the Serb two times in the Olympics. “The fact that after both Olympic games matches he was devastated and still managed to find words of praise that obviously resonated deeply with Del Potro shows what a class act Novak is in defeat.” This included the warm embrace that the former pro offered him on the court along with the statements of adoring his levels.

“Every Delpo match was crazy at this olympics,” a fan wrote, highlighting the fact he manages to be on top of his levels, especially during the Olympics. Crowned with a total of two Olympic medals in his career, the former pro truly stands to be deserving of all the praise.
