Novak Djokovic is proving that age is just a number! At 37, the Serbian maestro continues to redefine greatness, displaying skills and strength that leave even the younger generation in awe. The Australian Open is yet another testament to his enduring brilliance, with Djokovic now storming into the semifinals, much to the delight of his fans. But it wasn’t just Novak’s masterclass on the court that sparked a buzz. After his match, former tennis pro Mardy Fish stirred up some serious conversation—this time aimed at the young guns, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
The Serbian tennis sensation took on Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Despite losing the first set, he managed to bounce back stronger and closed the match in straight sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. This also etched his name on yet another special record as Nole qualified for the 50th semi-finals in the last 68 Grand Slams that he has appeared in. This victory, meanwhile, has received widespread appreciation with Fish joining the fray with a unique question.
Taking to his X, the former ATP Star questioned, “How many majors are Sinner and Alcaraz winning with Nadal/Fed/Novak in their primes? And how many would Roddick or Murray win in this Era today…??? 🤔” Well, this question is worth giving a thought especially due to the dominance that the Big Three have depicted, and which Djokovic is continuously taking to a remarkable height.

Remember, Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer have shared 66 Grand Slams amongst themselves, with the Serb leading with 24 Slams under his arsenal. And while the other two have bid adieu to the sport, Djokovic has continued to depict immense resilience and tenacity. During his match against Alcaraz, Nole countered an early physical issue by red-lining the ball for large periods. He opted for a medical timeout at 4-5 in the first set and came back with his upper left leg taped. However, he not only defeated the Spaniard but did not let him win a single set after the first.
For the unversed, besides all the Grand Slams and the Olympic Gold that Djokovic has under his belt, he also holds one more interesting record and it is that of winning all four Grand Slams in a year, for three times. Besides, he has blazed against young guns like Sinner and Alcaraz as well, against whom he has a head-to-head tally of 4-4, and 5-3 respectively. Hence, Fish’s question cannot be ignored.

Speaking about the same after the match, the Serb said, “I don’t want to reveal too much obviously. But yeah, the medication started to kick in and that helped, no doubt. I had to take another dose. This sounds awful! Me taking another dose. But I had to.” Continuing further, he admitted that he was left “concerned” by his injury and said he does not know what condition he will be in ahead of Friday’s semi-final.
“If I manage somehow to be physically good enough, I think mentally, emotionally I’m as motivated as I can be,” the Serb said. Now, with fans expecting him to continue his dominance, it will be crucial to see if he can keep moving forward despite the injuries and clinch his 25th Grand Slam.
