The new tennis season is underway and Novak Djokovic is more than determined for glory. After a forgettable last year, which saw him miss out on Grand Slam titles, he is determined to etch his name in history books this year by potentially claiming his 25th career Grand Slam title and the 11th Australian Open title. And his wife Jelena is looking to help the Serb maestro in his quest for glory in whatever way she can.
Novak Djokovic expressed gratitude and surprise at his wife Jelena’s decision to bring their children to Australia ahead of the first Grand Slam of the season. For the first time, Djokovic has his family by his side Down Under, which has given him a fresh perspective and renewed motivation. Speaking about the experience, the 24-time Grand Slam champion said, “I was actually a little bit surprised as well. My wife said she wanted to take the kids on the road and come to Australia. I wasn’t expecting that because I know it’s a long trip, school, and everything.”
Djokovic admitted that traveling without his family in the past left him feeling sad and lonely, especially during lengthy trips to Australia. Reflecting on it, he added, “I’ve been feeling that I must admit. Every time you have to separate with your kids and your wife, there’s a lot of tears involved. Then you start to question yourself, why do I have to do it over and over again?”

Having his family with him this time around has changed everything though. Djokovic shared, “It allows me to not feel the guilt… I’m more motivated, more calm, more serene.” The support from Jelena and his children has helped Djokovic balance professonal and family life, which he described as “a great balance so far.”

Djokovic’s family has often accompanied him on the tour in the last year or so. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Jelena, and kids supported him as he won the gold medal by defeating Carlos Alcaraz. The celebrations in the aftermath were heartwarming. Now, at the Brisbane International, Djokovic looks unstoppable. He secured his spot in the quarter-finals with a commanding win over Gael Monfils, marking a 20-0 head-to-head record against the Frenchman. Djokovic will now face Reilly Opelka in the quarter-finals.
Once the Brisbane International is done, Djokovic will be joined by coach Andy Murray next week ahead of the Australian Open. With his family cheering him on and his game in peak form, the Serb seems poised for more success in 2025.
