In a statement to ATP Media on Friday in Turin, Djokovic revealed his goals, saying, “For me, the biggest goal right now is to end the season as the No. 1 player in the world, so hopefully I can clinch it. I need one win, so hopefully that happens. And then of course, I would love to win the tournament as well. But that’s the goal, and then let’s see what happens afterward.”

When Djokovic equalled Pete Sampras’ record in 2021, as reported by ATPtour.com, he stated, “Just proud and extremely happy. Obviously that was one of the biggest goals and it’s always one of the biggest goals, to try to be No. 1 and end the season as No. 1. To do it for the record seventh time and surpass my childhood idol and role model, Pete, is incredible. Very grateful, very blessed to be in this position.”
