The ongoing Desert Smash was already an exciting venture but when Novak Djokovic, out of nowhere, made a surprise visit to the venue, stunned was the least of fan responses. The tournament organizer was also among those who shared the excitement of Novak Djokovic’s unexpected appearance. The Serbian has not attended the pre-event in more than a decade but this year, he showed his philanthropic side to support his friend, Charlize Theron.
Expressing genuine happiness about the Serb’s participation at the event, the organizer highlighted in an interview that it was only a last-minute call that brought the Djoker to the event. Owing to a busy schedule, no one knew for sure what the day would bring. To everyone’s surprise, Djokovic arrived at the arena exactly a minute before the scheduled time!
“But he has been really wanting to come today and last week we did not think this was going to happen. We got a call from his team this morning and he said, “Listen if we do this it will be about 10 minutes and we need to be on the court at 4:55″. At 4:54 he was walking down the stairs so the team did an incredible job,” said the tournament organizer after the match was over.
