“In the end of the day, how many tennis players in history are able to do the things that I’ve done and I’ve achieved.” Sheer confidence and pride over his achievements! This is how Novak Djokovic created a massive trail of achievements for himself. Whenever it comes to the GOAT debate, fans intend to use Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer‘s Olympic achievements as a shield against the Serb. Now that he’s finally looking forward to attaining that as well, players have no second thoughts before calling his name out.
Djokovic made it to the Olympic final by defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Already boasting an impressive trail of Grand Slam victories and numerous records to his name, the Serb is now aiming to add a gold medal to his collection. Amid the excitement of his upcoming showdown against Carlos Alcaraz, the GOAT debates reignited, this time capturing the thoughts of American ATP star Tommy Paul.
Soon after attaining the Olympic bronze in men’s doubles with Taylor Fritz, Paul proudly picked Djokovic as his top choice in the GOAT debate. Ina recent video shared by ATP Tour’s official YouTube channel, Paul was seen answering questions about who is the best in different aspects of tennis. On being asked about who is the tennis “GOAT” Paul didn’t waste a second to utter the Serb’s name with confidence.

Paul also picked the Serb for the best return on serve. Djokovic is generally a part of such conversations and appreciates them as they bring more attention to tennis. “For me it’s so hard to have this discussion but I think when it comes to tennis, I enjoy people talking about it. And the reason why – the more people talk about it, the more discussion there is towards tennis, so the more tennis benefits from that and as a tennis player, I want that for my sport, I want more children involved in the sport,“ he said, in an interview with his mate Nick Kyrgios.
However, despite finding these conversations entertaining and engaging, the Serb tends to refrain from stating his own opinion on the matter. “But I will never say who I think the GOAT is in tennis, I will never say that, I’ll leave it to others. Mostly out of respect to all the greats and all the champions in all the generations before us,“ he added.

“Statistically, it’s over. For now, unless Nadal somehow is able to find something and get back in the conversation with more Majors,” he said, making it clear that it is just Novak Djokovic who managed to survive this far, with Roger Federer retired and Rafael Nadal out of the scenes.
As it all continues, it is certain that an Olympic medal will add more votes to the Serb’s “Greatest of All Time” claim.
