With the Australian Open looming over the head, the hunt for supremacy is on. With veterans like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic coming into the tournament to youngsters like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, everyone will give their level best to ensure that they lay their hands on the title. However, only one player would be able to clinch the title. If the past stats are taken into consideration, the Serbian is the most favorable candidate to receive yet another title glory.

Recently, all eyes are turning to Jannik Sinner as a possible disruptor to Novak Djokovic’s reign at the Australian Open 2024. The young Italian’s rise to the top is turning heads for several reasons that might just signal the end of Djokovic’s dominance down under.

Firstly, the capabilities that Sinner has, received a significant boost from none other than Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz. The young Spaniard, who is also considered by many as his fierce rival on the tennis court said that Sinner has the capabilities that can help him reach the top.

“I have no doubts about it – he’s one of those guys who are able to win a Grand Slam,” said Alcaraz. “And I think he’s gonna reach the No.1 in 2024, or he’s going to give himself the chance to reach the No.1. So that’s my prediction.”

Talking about his year, Sinner’s recent triumphs, including titles in Beijing and Vienna, coupled with leading Italy to a Davis Cup victory after almost half a century showcase how much talent he has with him.

What’s more, Sinner’s Grand Slam track record is impressive as he became the youngest player since Djokovic in 2008 to reach the quarterfinals across all four majors. At the 2022 Wimbledon, he managed to make his way into the semi-finals. “His consistency is just extraordinary. By 21, he’d been in all four major quarterfinals. He’s now been into a semi. He’s certainly a contender,” said Todd Woodbridge.

Talking about his progress over the years, it has been slow yet steady. After winning his first ATP 250 tournament back in 2020, he managed to lay his hands on his first-ever ATP 500 title back in 2021. A couple of years later, in 2023, he managed to win his first ATP 1000 Masters tournament.

Talking further about Sinner’s chances, he is currently being coached by Australian tennis legend Darren Cahill. This gives him a strong Australian connection that he could use to showcase his best game in Melbourne. Putting a cherry on the cake, he was recently awarded the ATP’s Fan Favorite award. Interestingly, this award was not held by anyone except Roger Federer or Nadal for over two decades. This further hints at his growing popularity and potential crowd support at the Australian Open.

All these factors contribute to suggesting that Sinner might just be the force capable of dethroning Djokovic’s supremacy in Melbourne. The combination of Sinner’s form, his knack for big wins, and the growing momentum in his favor presents a great challenge to Djokovic’s grip on the Australian Open title.
