Novak Djokovic extended his Davis Cup singles winning streak to 21 after a win against Cameron Norrie on Thursday. He defeated the top-ranked Brit in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-4 margin. With this win, he secured a place for Serbia in the semis of the 123-year-old prestigious tournament for the second time in three years. Now, he has the support of his family from the stands to see him through the one last hurdle of the season.
Djokovic’s wife Jelena Djokovic and other family members were among the attendants at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga. They came here to provide one last push before the end of a tiring yet astonishing season in Djokovic’s career. Novak Djokovic had last lost a match in Davis Cup on September 18, 2011, which is almost 12 years ago. Can his family witness the second title of their nation in Spain on November 26 after a long gap of 13 years?

Novak Djokovic receiving support from his wife and other family members from the stands in Malaga
Djokovic’s wife posted a story before the start of the match saying ‘Idemoooooo Srbijoo’. It means ‘Let’s go, Serbia’ Here’s what Novak Djokovic has said about getting huge support from his family to conquer the tennis world: ‘I mean, no superpowers, but they are definitely bringing me great energy and support that I need and that I’m really always welcoming. You know, I was very glad obviously. Quite late for kids, but they stayed you know. I know where they were seated, so yeah, the kisses were for them and for the family, I mean, here,’ Novak Djokovic.

He added ‘My parents are here, and brother as well. It feels special. You know, it feels different. Obviously representing your country, being part of the team with the friends and family around, it’s just a very different week from what I’m normally used to. I’m really happy that I managed to contribute to Serbia’s win.‘
The number one in men’s singles now wants to keep his momentum going and end the season on a higher note. Djokovic has already won three Grand Slam titles this year. A trophy for the nation would be a cherry on top of his stellar run this season. To help him in his pursuits he needs the superpowers from his family.
An interviewer highlighted that since his kids Stefan and Tara had arrived in Turin, he has won against strong opponents without dropping sets. He asked him whether they gave him any superpowers to overcome these hurdles. Whether those two kisses that he blew to the higher end of the stadium were for his family.
The crowd was quite hostile on Thursday and to have the support of his wife and kids meant a lot to Djokovic. No other player in the tennis world is hated as much as Novak Djokovic. To overcome all that negativity and still win 24 Grand Slam titles is truly exceptional.

Djokovic lashed out at the British fans
His irritation with some of the fans who were sitting just behind the Great Britain bench was portrayed through his reactions during the first set. Just after winning the first set, he blew a kiss to a particularly vocal British supporter and also cupped his ear towards him. Then later on, British fans came back at him with incessant drum beats during his on-court interview. This made the 36YO Serbian fume at them saying ‘Shut up and be quiet‘.
