Djokovic's Olympic celebrations: Is he redefining sportsmanship or crossing the line?

As soon as Novak Djokovic announced that he wanted everyone “to believe that nothing is impossible”, the community knew he had finally achieved something big. While a majority of the players from his era keep wondering when the Serb will take some time to rest, he’s far from stopping. Although the tennis great is committed to continuing the tussle, the gold medal victory allowed him a peaceful vacation with his family, decorated with love and violins.

Novak Djokovic’s recent days have been filled with celebration and joy after his historic victory at the Paris 2023 Olympics. Amid the days of clinking his wine glasses, the tennis star was spotted trading his racket for a real violin as he uncovered his musical side during a concert in Croatia. During a family holiday with Jelena and the kids, Nole joined professional musicians Julian Rachlin and Sarah McElravy to surprise everyone with his violin skills.

In a video shared by ESPN Tenis’ official X handle, the Serb can be seen playfully mocking the professional musicians as his gorgeous wife can be seen cheering for him just like she did in the stands of Roland Garros. The video received immense attention because of the Serb’s recently revealed celebration in which he uses his tennis racket to play the violin.

This celebration came after Djokovic’s decision to skip the Canadian Open, as he was focused fully on the Paris Olympics. “I’m disappointed to announce my withdrawal from the National Bank Open in Montreal,” Djokovic said earlier. “However, as I’m recovering from my injury in a very busy calendar this summer, I need to make hard choices,” he added, dropping concerns regarding his participation in the upcoming hard-court major.

Djokovic’s violin celebration is more than just a fun gesture. It holds a special meaning for him and his family, as he revealed the significance behind it in a recent interview. His six-year-old daughter, Tara, has been learning the violin for the past six months. “That was for Tara. My daughter has been playing violin for some time already, and we agreed that I would celebrate that way,” Djokovic said.

These celebrations are still fragments of what the Serb has achieved with his Paris Olympics win. As his nation is honored with his win, the authorities recently came forward to announce a surprising update.

As Novak Djokovic spends quality time with his family, an announcement from the authorities in Serbia surprised the whole tennis community. After his gold medal win at the Paris Olympics, the nation now plans to build a museum dedicated to the tennis legend. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced the project, saying, “We had the first discussions about the construction of the Novak Djokovic museum, which is expected to become another attraction for the city.” This is to honor the Belgrade native’s legendary record of 24 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal.

Vucic also mentioned the museum’s goal is to highlight the tennis great’s contributions to the country and to draw in tourists. This would play a similar role as the museum dedicated to Rafael Nadal in Palma de Mallorca. “We will strive to showcase what Djokovic has done for our country in accordance with his merits and at the same time attract tourists,” Vucic added. As the fans eagerly wait for the museum to allow entries, Vukic hopes that the project will be completed before Belgrade hosts the World Expo in 2027.
