The Serbian tennis legend, Novak Djokovic, is usually known for his brilliance and also for his on-court antics on the ATP tour. Apart from that, the 21-time Grand Slam champion has also taken up a major role in the players’ welfare. In doing so, the former World No 1 and the Canadian tennis player, Vasek Pospisil, previously established a tennis association named, Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA).
The ‘controversial’ tennis association was founded with the sole purpose of representing the players’ best interests. However, it also claimed that the current structure of the tennis governing bodies, ATP and WTA, had inadequacies when it came to addressing the issues encountered by several players on tour. Now, the PTPA will take another major step as it will form the first executive committee that will include Djokovic and the WTA star, Ons Jabeur, among others.

Djokovic previously surprised the tennis community when he stepped down from the ATP player council due to a conflict of interest. The Canadian tennis player, Vasek Pospisil, also withdrew from the council for the breakaway group. They thereafter founded the PTPA, which gradually earned support and trust from the players on tour.
Now, the tennis association is taking a critical step forward by forming its first executive committee. Pospisil also commented on the same while talking to Reuters. He said, “There’s every indicator out there now that this will be a huge moment for our sport”.

Other players who have also joined the executive committee
Apart from the co-founders, Djokovic and Pospisil, some other big names have also joined the executive committee of the PTPA. The Polish tennis star, Hubert Hurkacz is there on the committee that will be announced ahead of the Australian Open.
