World No.4 Alexander Zverev recently won his fifth Masters title at the Cincinnati Masters 2021. The German steamrolled over Russia’s Andrey Rublev and thrashed him in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 6-2, 6-3.
After this, Alexander Zverev will be advancing to the US Open 2021. He ended up as the runner-up of the tournament last year- losing to Dominic Thiem in the finals after a five-set marathon.
In the post-match press conference, Zverev admitted that even though he is enjoying some great form on the tour, it is Novak Djokovic who will begin as the favorite before the US Open 2021. He mentioned that the Serbian legend is fresh and it will be hard to beat him at the tournament.

“As I said before, I do think that he (Novak Djokovic) is still the favorite,” began Zverev. “I do think that he is going to play incredible tennis there. He’s going to be fresh.”
Djokovic recently began his training for the US Open 2021 in Marbella, Spain. He has already won three Grand Slam titles and will be eyeing to create history in New York this year.

“It’s definitely going to be an interesting US Open”- Alexander Zverev
Zverev highlighted that even though Nole will be the favorite, there are some players who will challenge him including himself. As a result, he believes that US Open is going to be a really fascinating tournament this year.
“I think there’s also other guys that are in very good form. I think Rublev is in good form, Medvedev, Tsitsipas,and I think all those guys are playing great tennis. So, it’s definitely going to be an interesting US Open,” concluded the World No.4 player.

Alexander Zverev stunned the world when he defeated Djokovic at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He has already denied him the Golden Slam and it’ll be interesting to see if he will be able to stop him from achieving he Calendar Slam or not.
