In 2016, when all seemed to be going fine, Roger Federer‘s world changed. He suffered a major knee injury that was a turning point in his career. Subsequently, he underwent surgery where the meniscus was trimmed. The Swiss maestro took time to heal and was even seen limping on crutches after the operation on his knee. Hours ago, a video went viral on social media, which depicted Federer’s grim state after the surgery. However, fans were quick to compare Federer’s state with that of Novak Djokovic’s after the surgery.

With his right knee taped, Federer took the support of crutches to move out of the room in that video. It’s a clip from his recently released documentary, ‘Federer: Twelve Final Days.’ Although the meniscus tear didn’t happen while playing, it did come a day after Djokovic had beaten the grass court champion at Wimbledon. In a twist of fate, the Serbian just had his own procedure for the same issue.

During the French Open, the Serb injured his knee and was forced to withdraw before his quarterfinal match against Casper Ruud. Subsequently, he underwent successful knee surgery and his recovery has surprised one and all. Djokovic is also in line to participate in the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

Nole, through his Instagram handle, shared a video of his recovery in which he was seen up and running with his son after the knee surgery, unlike Federer. Additionally, he also took to the court for a practice session. All this hasn’t gone down well with the tennis world, who is questioning if Djokovic really suffered an injury at the French Open.

Fans take brutal dig at Novak Djokovic for ‘comeback drama’ amid surgery news

The 24-time Grand Slam champion was one of the favorites to win the French Open title. While the fans were in much anticipation of him, an untimely injury setback ruled him out of the tournament. This left many dejected as he showed glimpses of his best after remaining titleless in 2024.

However, when Federer’s limping video from a similar injury went viral, fans took no time to compare how the Serb had healed so quickly, thereby questioning the truth of injury. One took to X and took a shot at Djokovic by saying, “This is a knee surgery recovery. Djoko lies, there was no surgery, to begin with, he wants comeback drama after drinking a tea.”

Meanwhile, some fans were left dejected to see Federer’s grim state after he went under the knife. The Swiss maestro was barely able to walk unlike Djokovic, who was up and running. While one fan pointed out Federer’s video to show what a real injury looked like, another Twitter user took a brutal dig at Djokovic, saying, “No fakovic here!”

On the other hand, some fans were left absolutely shell-shocked by Djokovic’s transformation after the injury. The Serb looked fit as ever as if the injury hadn’t occurred. A fan commented, “And then there’s Novak running around 2 weeks after surgery. How in the world,” while one fan termed Djokovic’s injury ‘fake.’

Federer took about half a year to fully recover in late 2016 and returned to win the 2017 Australian Open title over Rafael Nadal at that. While that was awe-inducing, what Djokovic has done seems almost implausible – although he has given no fixed date of return, the Serbian did confirm his Paris Olympics participation, which begins from July 26, barely more than a month from now.

Another fan put forth a similar argument, “Other people run and jump around less than 2 weeks after they claim to have had surgery. #thisisreal#”
