Although it’s only Roger Federer who has retired, the era of the Big 3 already seems to be over. Rafael Nadal has barely been seen on court in the last two years. In contrast, Novak Djokovic had a brilliant 2023 with an almost Calendar Slam Year, and in 2024, he has now finally won his Olympic gold. But one familiar opponent, who stopped Djokovic’s Slam tally to 3/4 last year, has proven to be a tough competitor for the Serbian this year as well and that’s Carlos Alcaraz.
These last few months have been full of Djokovic vs. Alcaraz in tournament finals, with the Spaniard emerging victorious at Wimbledon against the Serbian two years in a row. Djokovic then avenged that loss at the Olympics in Paris, where he won the gold medal for the first time in his long career. But according to the latest stats, the Serb has lost yet another battle to Alcaraz and this is an off-court one. The Spaniard has risen to the top as the highest-earning male tennis player in the world, according to Forbes.
In contrast to team games like baseball or football, tennis falls on the lower side of the scale when it comes to on-court earnings. Per Forbes, Alcaraz’s annual on-court earnings are $10.3 million, while Djokovic earns $12.2 million a year. It might seem like the Serbian is ahead but when we look at off-court yearly earnings, Alcaraz stands at $32 million, while Djokovic is way below at $25 million. Well, who’s the winner now?

If tennis on the Tour revolved around making a living out of the majors, Djokovic might actually win because of his record-setting 24 Grand Slams. But in the last two years, Alcaraz’s form has been steady and consistent, probably more consistent than Djokovic’s. Not to mention his multiple endorsement deals with brands like LVMH, Rolex, BMW, Babolat, Calvin Klein, and ISDIN sunscreen. But is there any stat where Alcaraz is behind Djokovic as far as the earnings are concerned?
Front Office Sports has brought in a new statistic – career earnings so far for active players. There, Djokovic reigns supreme at the top with $182.5 million, while Alcaraz is at number 7 with $31.6 million. Coming back to yearly earnings though, Djokovic was always behind Roger Federer, till the Swiss maestro was active on the court. He found his way to the top once Federer retired, but his reign as the highest-paid tennis player lasted exactly one year before Alcaraz entered the scene.

If we take a look at inactive players, from 2007 to his retirement in 2022, Roger Federer was the sport’s highest-paid player, per Forbes. In fact, he still earned close to $90 million from his off-field pursuits in the next 12 months after his retirement. And he has now added a little less than half of that amount to his bank account again!
Novak Djokovic may once have been at the top but no one comes close to Roger Federer
After five years of putting up a property for sale, Federer has finally sold his property in the Swiss town of Herrliberg. Reportedly bought in 2011, the 5.8 thousand sq. mt estate offers lovely views of the Alps and Lake Zurich. The maestro decided to sell the place in 2019, listing it for over $41 million, but he later reduced it to $35 million.

But the good news for the former pro is that Zurich-based Amini Group has finally bought the land and Federer has reportedly added another $41 million to his already substantial earnings.
With Federer’s net worth estimated at $550 million, Djokovic’s at $240, and, Alcaraz’s at $60 million, the latter two have yet to catch up to the original!
