Novak Djokovic‘s recent controversy with the British crowd received another update. The Serb stood strong against the heckling that he had to face during the round of 16 showdown against Holger Rune. While it was something that he wanted to keep out of his mind to be focused on the event, repetitive discussions provoked him to perform a serious act.
Novak Djokovic didn’t really seem to have moved on from the crowd’s irrelevant behavior at Wimbledon. The Serb already made his thoughts clear about such a move and therefore took a serious dig against them during his on-court interview. Right after that, he was asked to explain the incident in detail during the press conference, to which he took positively and therefore gave all the answers.
He wanted to keep his mind free from controversial thoughts as the quarter-finals lay ahead of him. As renowned media giant BBC tried to initiate a conversation about the recent incident in an interview, he couldn’t think of anything else but leaving the studio then and there. The BBC Sport recently shared a glimpse of what happened in their recent post on X. “Novak Djokovic walked away from our post-match interview last night after we asked him about his reaction to some of the Centre Court crowd,” the caption said.

All of this started when Novak Djokovic felt that the British crowd was disrespecting him by booing. On the other side, many believe that the crowd was actually chanting Rune’s name, which sounds like booing. During the interview, Djokovic defended his take against the crowd, saying, “Listen, I have been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks, I know how it works. I focus on the respectful people that pay for the ticket, and love tennis and appreciate the players. I have played in much more hostile environments, trust me — you guys can’t touch me.”

This led to a drastic decision that he had to make against the BBC. While they were the only media channel to support him during a tough time, it could result probably result in the tampering of fine relations.

The media giant supported Djokovic by airing the interview, which was later disregarded across the world. “The BBC’s exclusive interview is the first time Novak Djokovic has spoken about his position himself, and our news editors judged that the interview was of genuine significance and was of interest to our audience, particularly in light of what unfolded in the build-up of the Australian Open in January,” the media channel stated, in defense of their interview.
Although it’s been a long time, the phase can never be removed from the memories of fans and pros alike. As Djokovic made a reflexive decision to maintain his composure amid the competition, it is to be seen if the channel considers it.
