Ever since its inception in 1900, the premier international team event in men’s tennis has been graced by a number of legendary figures. Even the modern tennis ‘GOAT’ Novak Djokovic has been representing his nation at the Davis Cup for more than a decade now. Just like his participation in the single events on the tour, the Serbian tennis star has often put on some captivating performances at the ‘World Cup of Tennis’.

The 24-time singles Grand Slam champion previously made some crucial contributions during his team’s triumphant campaign at the 2010 edition. On top of this, the 36-year-old has been on a phenomenal winning streak that he has managed to maintain for more than a decade. Nevertheless, in spite of his outstanding exploits, the ATP legend has experienced some rotten luck at the Davis Cup.

Ever since making its first appearance in 1995, the Serbian side has marked 28 campaigns at the premier international team event. During this considerable period, the Serbian team featuring Djokovic has only managed to secure a single title-winning run, which came more than a decade ago.

Back in 2010, it was none other than Novak Djokovic who bagged some crucial wins for his team, as he outperformed the likes of Gael Monfils and John Isner. Due to the crucial contributions of the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion, the Serbian tennis team clinched their lone title at the Davis Cup after defeating France 3-2. Since that triumphant moment, Djokovic has managed to remain a formidable force at the international event.

The 36-year-old player has lost only a single match in the Davis Cup that took place in 2011, when he was up against the Argentinian Juan Martín del Potro. For almost 12 seasons, the ‘Djoker’ has been riding on a remarkable winning streak, as he has yet to face a defeat at the esteemed international tennis event since his participation in 2011.

However, despite his individual brilliance, Djokovic hasn’t been able to record a second Davis Cup victory because his colleagues haven’t performed to the same caliber as him. In 2013, the Serbian side came close to their second triumph, but they were defeated by the Czech Republic 2–3 in the championship match. While Djokovic won both his matches against Radek  Stepanek and Tomas Berdych, his colleagues failed to bag a single victory for their team.

Even in his previous participation in 2021, Djokovic was on a 4-0 winning streak; however, he ended up on the losing side as the Serbs were defeated by Croatia 1-2 in the semifinals.

Can the Serbian tennis legend turn the tide this season?

Even after a hectic season in which he won three Grand Slam titles and the recently concluded ATP Finals, the ‘Djoker’ is showing no signs of tiredness. Continuing his phenomenal on-court momentum, the world No. 1 player breezed past Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4 to once again guide his nation to their sixth Davis Cup semifinal since 2010.

His teammate, Miomir Kecmanovic, on the other hand, also managed to prevail in a thrilling encounter against Jack Draper, 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (8-6)  as the Serbs secured a 2-0 victory over Great Britain. The Serbian players, including Djokovic and Kecmanovic, didn’t face a single break point during the quarterfinals.
