Novak Djokovic’s vaccination status has spelled problems for the Serb for quite some time now. He could not play the Australian Open following a highly dramatic visa-related issue. Djokovic has also been missing in action for the American hard-court swing.

He will be having a tough time playing the tournaments held in the countries which have a compulsory vaccine mandate. But given the current trend of the virus, many nations are doing away with the restriction. At a recent press conference, the tournament director, Amelie Mauresmo revealed that given the current rules being followed in France, there should not be an issue about Djokovic’s participation.
Novak Djokovic might be able to defend his title
The press conference by the organizers of the French Open was done in order to address the new developments in the 2022 edition. “As things stand, nothing stands in the way of Djokovic’s participation at Roland-Garros,” tournament director Amélie Mauresmo, a former coach of Andy Murray, said.
Since March 14, the French government has decided to lift COVID-19 restrictions in public spaces; except for at hospitals, retirement homes, and public transport.

The president of the Federation, Gilles Moretton however issued a warning. Stating that the pandemic is not over yet, and the virus is also very much active. He stated “There is still a virus circulating and we must be careful. If things were to happen again and the government took new measures, we would not be excluded from these measures,” he said.
Given the uncertainty that Covid brings along with it and each of its waves; no decision is set in stone yet. If by the time the championship rolls around the government decide to impose new restrictions; tournament will not be exempted from it.

This however is good news for the Serb, who fell from his No. 1 spot a while ago to Daniil Medvedev. But Medvedev had to reach the quarterfinals at Indian Wells, in order to consolidate his position. However, he failed to do that and thus Djokovic is back to the top spot again.
