People will remember today’s Australian Open semifinal between Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas for a very long time. It’s not because of the match itself, but the drama surrounding the match. The match had code violations, arguments, profanity, and on-court coaching, all of which makes for extremely entertaining content.

In the end, Daniil Medvedev won the match in four sets. However, the war of words didn’t stop after the match, as it continued at the press conference as well.

Stefanos Tsitsipas took a dig against Daniil Medvedev

The top seed in this tournament, Daniil Medvedev, beat the Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets in 2 hours and 30 minutes. After going down in the first set, Tsitsipas made a good comeback in the second set to level the scoreline. However, Medvedev wasn’t happy, as he thought Tsitsipas’ father was coaching the Greek player from the player’s box.

Then came the phenomenal outburst of Daniil Medvedev aiming towards chair umpire. The Russian player literally ordered the chair umpire to give Tsitsipas a code violation. He said, “If you don’t, you are… how can I call it… a small cat.”

In the end, Medvedev won the match by 7-6,4-6,6-4,6-1, but fans will remember this incident for a very long time.

Later, at the press conference, Tsitsipas revealed what he thought about the rant by Medvedev. “Well, it’s for sure funny (smiling). It’s funny. I don’t pay attention to the stuff. I know players like to do this stuff to throw you off mentally. Could be maybe a tactic. It’s all right. He’s not the most mature person anyways,” Tsitsipas responded.

Earlier in the tournament, Tsitsipas also got a coaching violation against Benoit Paire. In the past players like Andy Murray have complained about Tsitsipas for taking long bathroom breaks during matches. However, Medvedev’s comments and behavior towards the umpire was untoward, to say the least.
