Roger Federer opens up about his childhood coach Peter Carter
In the recent press conference at the Laver Cup, Federer talked about Carter’s influence in his career, as he is about to hang his rackets. “With Peter, obviously, it?s so unfortunate that he didn?t see me getting to the top of the ranking and so many of my most incredible victories but at the same time he was instrumental to my game, to my personality, he was not just a bigger brother but was also a mentor and a great coach,” Federer said.?
“If I played the way I played, you know with my technique, it?s probably a lot to do with him. And then, after that all the other coaches that came along. I?ve been so fortunate to have the right coach at the right time and I felt I learned from each and everyone a lot and It?s been a great career,” he further said.?
It is worth noting that Federer won the Wimbledon title back in 2003, which was his first ever Grand Slam title. Unfortunately, Carter tragically died in a car accident a year before Federer’s Grand Slam victory. Back in 2019, Federer talked about it and became really emotional. He revealed that he trained extra hard after Carter’s death to honor his late coach.
