Rolex Paris Masters has begun and tennis fans are on the edge of their seats, rooting for their favorite players. Recently, the drama around one of the matches caught the attention of the tennis world as the local crowd booed away a player from the court. Yes, we are talking about Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev lost his race for the year-end number 1 ranking, as he lost his second-round match against Grigor Dimitrov in Bercy.

After losing the match, he was booed by the crowd till the time he disappeared from the court. This expression from the audience certainly got under his skin as he reciprocated their negative expression under the pretense of ‘looking at his nails’.

Medvedev was doing well up until the second set of the match. But at 5 all in the second set, he got frustrated and threw the racquet on the ground in the middle of the match. And that is when the crowd got upset and started booing him. Apparently, the booing continued even when he won points and that certainly got to him.

The crowd continue to boo him until the match ended. So, while he was leaving the court, he looked at his nails and started moving his hand. And then came out the middle finger. Later, he was asked about the same in an interview post the match. To this, he responded, “At 5-All during the second set, and during the third set I think I threw the racquet, and when I throw the racquet, I can be booed. I mean, it’s normal that I should be booed. But if I’m serving and they applaud and I’m being booed, that’s another kettle of fish”

Medvedev feels disappointed by the Paris crowd

In an interview post his match, Medvedev shared how he has problems with the crowd in Paris. And that in the next two years maybe he won’t be coming back to play here. He added, “Not everyone likes to play here in Paris for this reason. I played in Bercy much better when there was no crowd at all in attendance.”

The reason why he got so frustrated was once the booing started, it didn’t stop even when he started playing well. And that distracted him. He shared that it made him lose confidence and he could not focus. Do you agree with this reasoning? Will Medvedev not playing in Bercy or Paris in the future be a big loss for the iconic hard court tournament? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
