The ATP Finals have moved on to the last stages, as the round-robin matches have ended. In their last bout, Daniil Medvedev faced Carlos Alcaraz, and the Spaniard emerged victorious. After the match, Medvedev stated that he was not playing at a level where he could defeat Alcaraz and needed more to propel himself to a win.
This comment came days after Medvedev had said that Alcaraz was losing because he lacked the confidence he possessed. However, the Russian star is on the losing end now.

The third-round bout between Medvedev and Alcaraz was slated to be electrifying. The Spaniard aimed to take revenge, while Medvedev looked to move on to the semifinals undefeated. Alcaraz beat the Russian star in straight sets and sealed his spot in the semifinals of the ATP Finals.
After the match, a stunned Medvedev said he had fallen short. While he believed Alcaraz had a difficult time in the last few months, he was still a formidable opponent.
He further explained, “As I said, when I watched against Rublev, the beginning was tough, then he was playing good. Against me, same. There were things I could have done better, again, in these important moments. There were some points where he was playing very good. I didn’t play 11 out of 10 today. I would give myself 8.5, which is a pretty good score, but it’s not enough to beat Carlos.”

Medvedev also said that losing before a semifinal was gutting, and he must find ways to improve his confidence if he wants to surpass Jannik Sinner. While he lost to the Wimbledon champ in straight sets, he said he lacked confidence just a few days earlier.

Alcaraz was out of the Shanghai Masters after round three. After that, he went on to lose in the first round of the Paris Masters and in his first ATP Finals match. He also said that it can happen to anyone, and he needs to work on overcoming it.
