Boris Becker shares horrendous details on how his fame affected prison life
Becker has opened up about his horrible prison experience for the first time since his release and return to Germany. The German only brought back family photos because he was so desperate to get out of jail. He gave away his stuff to other inmates, like his clothes, shoes, and books.
In his first interview since his release, the 55-year-old talked about the challenging time spent incarcerated. The Guardian reported that while Becker was a prisoner, no one used his first name, and “no one gave a s**t” about the fact that he was a tennis champion. Nevertheless, he continued by saying that throughout his 231 days in jail, he had used the time to think about his life and find his human side.
Becker completed eight months of his two-and-a-half-year sentence at HM Prisons. The German said in his interview, “You are only a number(inside a prison). Mine was A2923EV. I wasn’t called Boris, I was a number. And nobody gives a s**t who you are.”
Boris Becker was ecstatic when he learned of his release date. He described how he had anxiously waited for his cell door to open for hours as he spoke about his last few hours in prison. The German reported that he had been ready by his bed for his release more than an hour beforehand and that when the door eventually opened; he felt relieved.
