After years of trying to recover from a knee injury, the 20-time Grand Slam champion decided to hang up his racquet after the Laver Cup. However, after losing to Novak Djokovic in the 2020 Australian Open semi-finals, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has not been a part of any ATP tour.
Roger Federer discusses his post-retirement plans
After his last match, the swiss maestro made it clear that he will not ghost the game and will stay connected to the game in any way possible. And the former world number one in a video shared by ATP talked about the ways he has decided to carry on.
He said, “I know, I want to and I have to find something that makes me really happy within the game. However, that is mentoring. I have no idea of commentating. I don’t know, just in a capacity that brings me back to tournaments.” The tennis legend had shortened his option of mentoring. He believes he won’t be able to take it after commentating for the tournaments. Even after playing his farewell match, the swiss maestro was seen mentoring other players from his team.

He further talked about supporting the future of sports, which is continually growing over the past few years. Federer even stated examples of how he saw tennis giants like Andre Agassi grow from the sport in front of his eyes when he started playing.
Federer’s emotional farewell match
The swiss maestro bid adieu to the sport by playing his last match at the Laver Cup, this September. For the farewell match, the tennis player chose to play a doubles match alongside his arch-rival and good friend Rafael Nadal. However, they lost the match against team Europe but won millions of hearts in their own way.
