Is Nick Kyrgios's return to tennis a comeback story or just another chapter of controversy?

Nick Kyrgios has made quite a name for himself. After a year-long hiatus due to injuries, the Australian has swapped his racket for a microphone. Stepping into the role of a commentator, Kyrgios has stayed connected to the sport he loves while recovering from his 2022 setbacks. His new venture suits him well, as he’s known for his sharp wit and bold opinions. Kyrgios has never been shy about sharing his thoughts, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed!

Though Kyrgios isn’t on the ATP rankings or participating in tournaments this year, he’s still very much on everyone’s mind. Recently, during the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) tour, the official team shared a TikTok video where players were asked to name the biggest trash talker in tennis. In this lively clip, players like Ben Shelton, Lorenzo Musetti, Thanasi Kokkinakis, and Ugo Humbert all pointed to Kyrgios as the standout trash-talker. UTS also shared the same clip on their Instagram page captioned, “Almost unanimous”

Meanwhile, Dominic Thiem and Jan-Lennard Struff opted for Gael Monfils. Interestingly, Monfils himself couldn’t choose just one name—he mentioned both Kyrgios and Frances Tiafoe. The lone dissenting voice came from Denis Shapovalov, who declared his pick to be none other than Ben Shelton.

In an interview with News Corp’s Code Sports, Kyrgios shared his excitement, he said, “I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game.” And he’s got the resume to show it! Including winning the men’s doubles title at the 2022 Australian Open alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis and securing seven ATP singles titles, it’s no wonder he’s eager to return.

Recovering from injuries that required surgery is no small feat. Despite the challenges, Kyrgios is fueled by a strong desire to compete again. He remains determined, even in light of the warnings given to him by his doctors.
