Nick Kyrgios may be off the court, but he’s certainly not out of the spotlight. After taking a break in June 2023 due to a knee injury, the Australian tennis star has been largely absent from competitive play. However, he has become rather comfortable on social media. Kyrgios keeps fans updated on his recovery and also shares his thoughts on all things tennis, as he weighs in on the doping controversy involving the world’s No.1 star Jannik Sinner.
Recently, the official Wimbledon page posted a stunning illustration showcasing tennis legends in their iconic white attire. The artwork featured the reigning stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at the forefront, flanked by the legendary Big Three—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic—on the steps beside them. One fan expressed admiration for the poster, reposting it with the caption, “This Wimbledon poster is so pretty.”

Kyrgios just couldn’t resist chiming in. In response to the tweet, he remarked, “The cream should be in Sinner’s pocket,” making a jab referencing Sinner’s ongoing doping case. The Italian player tested positive for Clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid in March 2024. He claimed that the substance entered his system through a spray used by his former physiotherapist to treat a cut on his finger. Although Jannik Sinner was cleared by the ITIA in August, WADA has reopened the case against him, which could lead to a potential two-year ban.

Meanwhile, Sinner is making waves at the Shanghai Masters. He recently triumphed over Novak Djokovic with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the finals, securing his seventh title of the season and reclaiming his spot at the top after a tough loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the China Open final. Despite Sinner’s on-court success, Nick Kyrgios and many fans have continued to voice their opinions on Sinner’s situation, adding to the drama surrounding the young Italian star.
Nick Kyrgios stirs the sinner controversy pot online
A few days ago, Kyrgios made another bold claim while answering questions from fans on his Instagram story. When asked if he would consider teaming up with Jannik Sinner for doubles, the Australian replied, “I only play with CLEAN players,” taking a clear jab at the Italian. But this wasn’t where the shade stopped. Kyrgios had a go again, making another snide comment referring to the World No. 1 still being present on the court.

After WADA’s statement on October 4, journalist Ben Rothenberg shared the press release on X, emphasizing that “it is not possible to indicate a time frame for the issuance of the decision.” The court also noted that procedural directions for the next steps in the case would be provided soon. However, as Rothenberg’s post gained traction, Nick Kyrgios was quick to chime in again. He wrote, “Why’s he still playing lol?”
While at the center of this social media storm, Jannik Sinner continues to compete in the Asian swing. His recent success only adds to the already charged narrative surrounding him. Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios’s critical remarks further intensify the scrutiny on the young Italian star. Do you think Kyrgios’ criticism of Jannik Sinner is justified? Let us know in the comments below.
