Injuries are easily any player’s worst nightmare and, unfortunately, Nick Kyrgios experienced going through that phase. The controversial Aussie star endured a series of career-threatening injuries that plagued his chances for a competitive appearance on tour. However, the ‘Bad Boy of Tennis’ held his own and managed to prevail from such damning concerns. Now that he is due for his much-anticipated return, Kyrgios opened up about his poignant journey after landing in Brisbane.
It was only a few weeks ago that Kyrgios confirmed his much-awaited comeback to the court. Not only did he announce that he would commence his touring calendar for 2025 at the Brisbane International, but the Aussie sensation followed that up with another exciting update for fans.
Kyrgios has joined forces with Serbian Novak Djokovic, his 2022 Wimbledon final rival, for a doubles blockbuster in Brisbane. After arriving at the venue, the former World No. 13 discussed it with the reporters during his pre-tournament presser. Kyrgios explained how his recovery journey went better than anticipated and expressed excitement for returning to the competitive stage once again.

He said, “It’s good to be back. I’m a little bit, I don’t know if I’d call it nervous. I look where I was 18 months ago, and I had the surgery. It’s been about 16 months. I never thought I’d be back playing at this level. Even entering an event like this, preparing, doing all the right things. It was surreal to be back out there. I took it all in. I’m excited to just go out there and play, just play tennis. I saw Novak in the gym, playing doubles with him, a lot to be excited about that I’m able to get out there and compete again.”
