Can Nick Kyrgios finally silence his critics by clinching his first Grand Slam title?

Nick Kyrgios‘ career took an unwanted turn more than two years ago. Just when he was peaking in 2022, after reaching the final of the Wimbledon and then the QF in the US Open, the Australian suffered from serious injuries. However, things are now looking great for him going into the new year. Kyrgios is finally set to make an awaited return and he’s extremely excited for it. He has made it clear with a witty response on social media!

Nick is someone who never shies away from expressing this thoughts and emotions. They were on full display recently when he put up an Instagram story, dated November 15th, while reacting to his comeback news. “THE ROLLER COASTER IS BACK ON”, wrote Kyrgios. For those unaware, Nick has only played one singles ATP match while being on a long break due to persistent injuries. His last appearance in a profession match came in June 2023. During the event in Stuttgart, he played against China’s Wibing Wu who won this face-off easily with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets.

Now that he’s coming back, Nick will mark his resumption with an upcoming event in Brisbane in late December. After this tournament, Nick’s main goal will be to clinch his first singles Grand Slam title. He’s made it pretty clear already in previous media interviews. According to him, “the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That’ll be my deep motivation.”

While it has taken a long time for him to return on the court, Nick was never really away from tennis. Although he couldn’t play, he made sure he was part of it in one way or the other. It’s because of his sheer passion for the sport.

When Nick Kyrgios turned into a tennis commentator

Given his unforgiving wit, Kyrgios became the perfect choice for networks like ESPN and Eurosport, last year, to provide his analysis and interesting takes in different events. In fact, he was also a commentator this year at the Wimbledon and the Australian Open. In December, he will complete one full year in this new-found job.

However, he’s not interested to carry this role forward and move away from tennis – at least not yet. He’s still got the zeal to keep playing without thinking of retirement at all. Talking to Code Sports in an interview, in mid-October, he said, “I’m far from done, to be honest. I’m in the later stages of my career, but I still have one or two years left… I’m feeling extremely well.” Adding further, he revealed, “I don’t want to think about retirement but at the same time I understand that it is coming to an end.” But he also knows that it’s not “going to be easy” when the times comes to hang his racket.
