Why did Kyrgios console Fritz but stay silent on Sinner's US Open win? What's your take?

Nick Kyrgios has recently been involved in several public exchanges related to Jannik Sinner‘. “Ridiculous—whether it was accidental or planned,”(in response to Sinner’s doping scandal). “When it still shows up in the second test hahahahahaha… I make myself laugh,”(in response to a post celebrating the early exits of top players like Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Zverev. “Second Serve,”(in response to Sinner’s GF Anna Kalinskaya’s picture with Kyrgios). Despite Sinner’s recent US Open victory, Kyrgios seems to have shifted his allegiance. He’s now offering words of comfort to Taylor Fritz .

On Sunday, the No. 1 seed Sinner dominated the No. 12 seed Fritz in the US Open men’s final, winning in straight sets-6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Despite Fritz’s late comeback attempt, Sinner’s superior play proved too much to handle. This victory marks Sinner as the first Italian man to win the US Open and the fourth man overall to win both the Australian and US Open titles in the same year on hard courts. Fritz, unfortunately, fell short of becoming the first American champion since Andy Roddick in 2003. However, Fritz’s supporters chose to lift his mood instead of giving him a hard time for the loss. Among many supporters, the Aussie tennis player was the one in the highlight.

When The Tennis Letter shared an image of the dejected American at Arthur Ashe along with three broken heart emojis, Kyrgios reshared it and added the following message: “Head up champ 🙏🏽🗣️ what a couple weeks @Taylor_Fritz97 – should be extremely proud of you”.

Following a few hours from Sinner’s hard fought victory in Ashe, Piers Morgan stirred controversy by retweeting the official US Open post with a sarcastic comment referencing Sinner’s past failed drug tests. “after failing TWO drugs tests. (Fixed it for you)”, Morgan tweeted. This comment quickly drew a response from Nick Kyrgios, who seemingly praised Sinner’s achievement. “First time in history! We are witnessing greatness!”

Despite losing one of the most significant matches of his career, Fritz remained optimistic. Although he had high expectations, Fritz saw the tables turn against him at the Slam. Surprisingly, he admitted that his semifinal match against Frances Tiafoe was more intimidating than the final.

Taylor Fritz feels “good” about his performance in the 2024 US Open

Before losing the US Open finals to Sinner, the number 12 expressed confidence about his chances of victory. He stressed more upon his competitive semifinal clash against Tiafoe and said, “To be honest, I don’t think that I’m going to be put in a more stressful situation than I was today than playing in a final. I think today was much more stressful for me than playing the final.”

Despite this stress, Fritz was hopeful about this time. He believed that his performance was good enough to win the slam. “I just feel good. I have a feeling I’m going to come out and play really well and win. When I play good tennis, I think that level is good enough to win,” Fritz said.

Taylor Fritz might have not won the Grand Slam title, but his incredible performance deserves huge applause from tennis lovers. Keeping aside his mum on Sinner’s victory, Kyrgios’ message for Fritz restores hope in the professional friendship between the two colleagues.
