Like it or not, Aussie fans miss their star player Nick Kyrgios in action at the ‘Happy Slam.’ While it’s hard to count the days since the ‘Bad Boy of Tennis’ electrified locals with his thrilling performance in Melbourne, fans are excited to see his comeback. He announced his return to the competitive circuit months after being sidelined due to career-threatening injuries. No doubt that Kyrgios will look to produce noteworthy results at the Australian Open, but, what has he accomplished so far at the season-commencing Slam?
Kyrgios has become the national hero after Bernard Tomic, years after the latter made waves by reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. Ahead of his much-awaited attendance at the home Slam after two years, fans are intrigued to know more about his track record in Melbourne. Since his first participation in 2012, Kyrgios has recorded an 18-11 win-loss record at the hardcourt event. Surprisingly, the Aussie sensation also won his career’s longest match at Melbourne Park.
Before COVID-19 caught up with the world in 2020, Kyrgios registered a hard-fought victory over Russian Karen Khachanov. The five-set drama, which took nearly four hours and thirty minutes, as stated by the Aussie, was ‘one of the best wins’ in his career. Although he suffered a disappointing fate from Rafael Nadal in the successive round, Kyrgios made up for his losses in the event’s 2022 edition.
