Is Nick Kyrgios right to question Jannik Sinner's US Open success amid doping allegations?

A game of chase! Jannik Sinner keeps chasing records in the tennis world. He became the first Italian man in the history of the sport to win a US Open singles title. Not only that, the 23-year-old tennis star is the first man to claim his first two major titles in the same season in 47 years. Sinner is undefeated in the hard-court slam this year! However, despite all these heroics on the court, the doping saga continues to haunt him even a few hours after accomplishing this historic feat. Nick Kyrgios is one of those players who have been outspoken about Sinner’s doping saga. And now, there is a new addition to this doping debate!

On September 8, 2024, the 59-year-old renowned English journalist Piers Morgan spoke up on this controversial issue. He reminded fans of a bitter memory in Jannik Sinner‘s glorious day. Shortly after Sinner’s comprehensive 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 triumph over America’s Taylor Fritz, the US Open’s official X handle shared a post congratulating the champion by stating, “SINNER SINNER US OPEN WINNER.” Morgan shared that post with the caption, *after failing TWO drugs tests. (Fixed it for you).” A few minutes later, Nick Kyrgios appeared on the scene with a comment stating, “First time in history! We are witnessing greatness!

Although, during one instance, we saw the Aussie tennis star lauding Sinner for his incredible performances at the US Open despite all the off-court controversies, Kyrgios has mostly been critical of Sinner on the doping issue. He called this whole incident,Ridiculous—whether it was accidental or planned.” There were instances when we also heard him say, “You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah, nice.”

Previously, when Jannik Sinner was asked to share his thoughts on the possibility of being interviewed by the Aussie, he asserted that he was literally unfazed by the prospect. Sinner had no intention of responding to any of Kyrgios’ claims. “Everyone is free to say everything,” said the world number one at that time.
