The American flag is waving high at the US Open 2024. While top seeds like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz had to end their dreams early on, Taylor Fritz paved his way into the quarter-finals for the second straight year. Fritz, who lost in the quarters at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, is “little bit sick of just making it to the quarterfinals,” and definitely wants to go further. Adding more to the goal, he recently dropped an update that ignited a fire in the hearts of his fans.
In his latest post on Instagram, he urged fans to keep up their efforts as he looks ahead to the next big challenge. “One step closer,” his caption said. “Back into the Quarterfinals @usopen. Ready to leave it all out there on Ashe tomorrow.”

Taylor Fritz broke new ground in New York by contesting his second straight quarterfinal after a commendable win over the world number 5, Casper Ruud. The 26-year-old admitted that Ruud was the better of the two players through the early stages of the contest. “I just had to stay in it because I felt like he outplayed me in the first set,” he said, reflecting on the challenges he had to endure. But when he finally held his serve and put the Norwegian under pressure, the momentum changed. “I feel his level then maybe dropped a little bit,” Fritz said, and that opened the door for him to begin seizing command of the match.
With the win, Fritz has set up a high-stakes quarterfinal showdown with Alexander Zverev. A victory over German would push Fritz into the Grand Slam semifinals for the first time in his career-an accomplishment only Frances Tiafoe has seen back in 2022 since Andy Roddick in 2006. Although he knows the gravity of it, yet is trying to keep things small at the same time. “I think that can add more pressure,” he said when asked about his title chances. “I came in 2022 saying I could win it, and I lost first round. I think it is good to take it one match at a time.”
Now, as Fritz prepares to meet Zverev in a much-anticipated showdown, he is just inches away from creating history. What’s more exciting than his own determination is the American crowd’s fierce backing for the ATP star.

Another fan introduced the feeling of patriotism as a measure to make Fritz feel more dominant. “Make us proud, my guy 🇺🇸” he commented. The ATP star wasn’t able to secure big at the Paris Olympics. At the mixed doubles match, Fritz along with Coco Gauff lost in the quarter-final to Canada duo Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriela Dabrowski in a tiebreak round. In singles, Fritz lost in the third round to Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. This could be his chance to pull a breakthrough.
A fan, predicting tremendous fortune for America this time at the US Open, wrote, “LETS GO @taylor_fritz 💪🏼 🎾 💥 🇺🇸 it’s america’s time for the win 🏆.” It was 21 years ago that Andy Roddick clinched the US Open title. While no other American ATP star managed to do so since then, the expectations of the fans are on a surge this time.
Looking at Taylor Fritz’s lead so far, a fan wrote, “You’re unstoppable! 💪”. Optimistic about similar levels in the upcoming showdown, he added, “Can’t wait to see you dominate on Ashe tomorrow! 🏆🇺🇸🔥” Fritz has a commendable 16/7 win on hard courts in the ongoing season. Statically, this itself solidifies his position.

Fritz’s last showdown against Zverev was marked at the 2024 Wimbledon round of 16. The American managed to move past him in a five setter showdown, which gives another reason for the spectators to expect similar results.
With these and several other comments on a similar note, the fans made it clear that they are wholeheartedly backing the 26-year-old now. As he looks forward to go against the German rival, it still remains to be seen if he manages to keep up with a wide band of expectations.
