World No.2 Daniil Medvedev advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open 2021. Facing Botic van de Zandschulp, the Russian player defeated him in four sets and won the match quite easily. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.
Interestingly, Daniil Medvedev even bageled Botic van de Zandschulp in the second set. He delivered a total of 13 aces and maintained a really impressive 83% win percentage on his first serve during the match. This all helped him to reach his third consecutive US Open semi-final.
In the post-match interview, Medvedev recalled his first breakthrough at the US Open 2019. He played amazingly well there but ended up as the runner-up of the Grand Slam after losing to Rafael Nadal in a really close battle. He also remembered his run at the US Open last year where Dominic Thiem ended his dream once again after beating him in the semi-finals.
