After a tough day full of anticipation and action-packed madness, Carlos Alcaraz has done it yet again. Coming into the French Open as a hot favorite, the Spaniard came out on top of Alexander Zverev in a 5-set thriller to bag his 3rd career major title. However, the match was nothing short of drama and madness unfolded right in the final set which even had the veterans come out and voice their opinion on it.

It was the 5th and the decider set and the scores were 2-1 Alcaraz with Zverev leading 15-40. Apparently, the Spaniard hit a second serve 2 millimetres away from the line. While it could have levelled the scores at 2-2 each, the play went on and eventually, the Spaniard came ahead to win the point and make it 3-1. However, Zverev claimed that he had stopped playing after the shot. This even forced the likes of Rennae Stubbs, the former coach of Serena Williams to pitch in her thoughts.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she suggested that Alexander Zverev is out of his mind for saying that he stopped playing. Apparently, Carlos was looking for the ball’s mark on the court which happens multiple times when a player plays on clay. Citing her frustration further, she suggested that Zverev actually never stopped playing.

However, it was certainly a crucial call in the match and could have changed the course of the match. But, this instance certainly received a lot of criticism from the fans as they went ahead and latched their criticism towards the officials.

After the incident went viral, the fans joined hands and slammed the chair umpire for the mistake that eventually cost the German player the whole match. While one fan suggested that the officials were wasted, another fan came ahead and suggested that it certainly had an impact on Zverev’s game.

Thus, this clearly indicates the need for a virtual technology that could make the line calling fair and give the players an equal chance to call if they feel like the call is not correct.
