Tennis player Andre Agassi‘s career was filled with upheaval. Not only has he witnessed his success, but he has also witnessed the downfall that came with those achievements. But now, two decades after leaving those fears behind, the 53-year-old American tennis legend has disclosed the harsh reality that led him to failure.

The eight-time Grand Slam champion has always been open about how tennis was never his first priority. Agassi was one of the tough competitors who stood up for himself in the tennis world in the ’90s. Even though he has eight major titles under his name, he didn’t end his career on a good note. In a video uploaded by Joey Cunha on Instagram, the 53-year-old tennis player talked about how he thought that everything would fall into place after becoming the number one player, but that was not the case.

Agassi said, “I think the thing that I have learned most in my life trying to be the best in the world at something is that failure and success is just an illusion. I went to number one in the world thinking that was going to be the end all, thinking that making my dad happy about achieving that goal would somehow satisfy some deep place and the truth is it didn’t. Got to number one in the world, I’d never been so disconnected as I was.”

Agassi highlighted how failures and success are just a part of life, and people should not depend on achieving things one after the other. Even after reaching world number 1, there was a moment when he saw his own downfall when he was ranked 140 in the world, but he didn’t give up.

But apparently, Andre Agassi’s own way of dealing with failure means finding a reason to climb to the top once again. This time it was not about achieving the number one ranking, but being happy with his tennis situation. Looking at how things were not easy for him, he is very clear about having his children in the tennis world.

Andre Agassi’s open admission to having a second generation of tennis players

Both Agassi and his wife, Steffi Graf, are quite well-known faces in the tennis world. But the eight-time Grand Slam champion never intended to become a tennis player; it was his father because of whom he got into the sport. But now that he has lived as a tennis legend, last year, in a candid interview, he opened up about his take on his children following tennis.

Agassi said, “There is no second generation in our sport. Parents who were active in the tennis circus don’t want that for their children.” Rather than beating around the bush, he made a straight statement regarding how he and his wife never want their children to get into tennis but are open about any other sport of their interest.
