Novak Djokovic started his campaign in the Wimbledon Championship 2022 with a win. Playing against his Korean opponent, the 35-year-old didn’t get his win easily. Soon-woo Kwon made the defending champion fight for his first victory in the tournament. Djokovic dropped a set but won comfortably with the scorecard reading 6-4, 3-6, 6-3,6-4.

After his first-round victory yesterday, the 35-year-old shed some light on his preparation ahead of any match.

How Novak Djokovic prepares himself for a match?

After winning his first-round match in the Wimbledon Championship 2022, Djokovic addressed the media. Answering a question, the top seed player in the tournament said that he looks at his opponent’s stats before the match. Also, he clarified that practice differs significantly from the actual match.

“I look at the stats of my next opponent more than mine, for me it?s about the feeling, finding better rhythm. Matches can?t be compared to practice, nerves kick in,”?he?said.

Further, the 35-year-old accepted he was a bit rusty at the start of the match. However, the Serb was pretty happy with his performance.?“I tried to get into the groove, so I was a bit rusty. I am pleased with the win,”?he added.

Defending champion?Novak Djokovic?was off to a shaky start in his first-round win. However, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will look forward to strengthening his grip in the second-round match.

The Serb will be up against the challenge of 26-year-old Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis. Playing in his fifth?Wimbledon championship, Kokkinakis finally got through to the second round of the tournament. Earlier in his four appearances, the 26-year-old failed to qualify twice, while he lost in the first round in the remaining two. Although it might look easy for the top seed, the Aussie surely can not be taken lightly.

Notably, the 35-year-old was defending champion for the first three Grand Slam of the year. While he could not defend the first two, the world number 3 will be eager to lift the Wimbledon trophy for the fourth consecutive time.
