The whole tennis world was excited to watch the Wimbledon final opponents, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, face off once again while playing for their countries. After all, it is brewing up to be one of the main rivalries that will entertain the fans in the next couple of years. However, the 20-year-old tennis star’s absence from the Davis Cup has stunned a lot of fans and raised questions about his dedication to his country.

Now, his Serbian rival has stepped in support of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship after his controversial decision. Just a few days ago, the two-time Grand Slam champion announced that he would not be taking part in the Davis Cup as he needed to get some rest. His announcement disappointed tennis fans as he chose not to play for his country after playing a lot of individual matches. But while most of the fans were against his decision, his rival stood by him.

Djokovic recently agreed with the former world number one’s decision to take a break in a recent Davis Cup press conference. Along with that, he also highlighted how he himself, in his 20-year career, hasn’t played every match for Serbia. And it’s normal that after playing a lot of individual events, there are a lot of things going on about your career and even about your personal life, so skipping a tournament is not a big deal.

He said, “It’s normal skipping a competition..I feel the need to protect & defend Carlos & all players bc I know what it feels like. It’s normal. Being 20 years old, he has a lot of time to represent his country.”

Further, he added, “Being 20 years old, he has a lot of time to represent his country.” However, even after supporting the 2022 US Open champion in his Davis Cup decision, like a lot of fans, the Djoker was also disappointed when he got the news.
