Former World No.7 David Goffin recently suffered a humiliating defeat in the very first round of the US Open 2021. Facing America’s Mackenzie McDonald, he didn’t look comfortable in the entire match and thus, lost the match in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 2-6, 5-7, 3-6.
Surprisingly, the match at the US Open 2021 became the last match of the season for David Goffin. In a recent Instagram post, he updated his fans that he has decided to end his 2021 season with immediate effect.

“Hi guys. I wanted to tell you that I am ending my 2021 season. I have had knee pain for a long time and I need time to heal properly,” wrote Goffin in the caption of his Instagram post.
Goffin revealed that he is currently suffering from a knee injury. He needs some time to recover from and thus, made up his mind not to play any more matches in the remaining part of the year.

David Goffin believes he will comeback strong next year
Goffin highlighted that he needs to recover 100% before returning to the court. He believes that he can make a pretty incredible comeback but for that he needs to spend some time off the court. He also apologized to the organizers of all the tournaments where he would not be able to play in the remaining part of the year.

“I would like to fully recover from all the injuries I have had lately to come back stronger next year. I apologize to all the tournaments and fans but I will see you in 2022!” added the Belgian player.
The 2021 tennis season proved to be quite a disappointing season for David Goffin. He failed to win a single tournament and stunningly, he lost his last five matches in five different tournaments. However, fgans still have huge expectations from the Belgian star player. Will he be able to make a spectacular comeback in 2022?
