Would Andy Murray have been more successful if he had taken risks like Carlos Alcaraz?

How would you celebrate one of the biggest wins of your career? Different people might have different approaches and answers to this question, and tennis stars Andy Murray and Carlos Alcaraz are perfect examples of this contrast. Carlos Alcaraz has found a unique way to commemorate his “ink-redible” victories. For Alcaraz, it’s not just about lifting trophies or celebrating with his team; it’s about marking the moment permanently. On the other hand, we have Andy Murray, a tennis legend with a different perspective on post-victory celebrations. And, when it comes to following in Alcaraz’s tattooed footsteps, Murray is decidedly hesitant.

In an exclusive interview with Hello, Murray deliberated on a wide range of topics including his retirement and plans of having tattoos. The legendary tennis star, who is all set to play the last Olympic games of his career in less than a week, expressed his skepticism about having tattoos and revealed an adorable yet bizarre fear about the same.

When quizzed if he would consider getting a tattoo of the Olympic rings to celebrate his success on the grand stage, Murray said, “Um, I don’t think so, no.” The 37-year-old is one of the most decorated players in tennis, especially when it comes to the Olympics. He has clinched two Olympic Gold Medals in the singles category in 2012 and 2016 and has won the mixed doubles silver medal in 2012. But why is Murray afraid of getting tattoos?

Continuing further, Murray revealed, “I still feel like my parents would kill me if I got a tattoo.” The 3-time Grand Slam winner’s response and action is equally opposite to his young counterpart from Spain, Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz has made a tradition of getting a tattoo for every grand slam win he has achieved.

Recently, he got an Eiffel Tower inked to his leg to celebrate his Roland Garros victory. In doing so, the Spaniard went against his parents’ desire not to have one more tattoo. He is in fact planning to get another to celebrate his second Wimbledon win! If the Spaniard continues his Wimbledon momentum in Paris, it would definitely mean he would get yet another tattoo of the Olympic rings. But despite not following Alcaraz’s style, Murray can’t be more than happy to represent his country at the Olympics, one last time!

When asked what it means for him to represent his country, the Scot said, “It’s something that makes me really, really proud. I love being part of TeamGB and competing for my country.” Meanwhile, Murray’s mother Judy is not just a mentor for her own child.

Besides the tag of a great tennis player, Andy Murray also holds the responsibility of a dad. But despite ruling the tennis courts with his calm, it seems that his demeanor at home is different. Murray revealed that his children listen more to their grandmother Judy.

Speaking in the same interview, Murray revealed that his children are slowly getting into tennis. “The oldest is just starting to get into tennis, but it’s taken a while. The others aren’t that keen yet. I think it’s hard when your dad plays tennis for a living. I hope they will want to play a bit more as they get older – there is no pressure from me.” When asked who is the most patient teacher between him, his wife Kim Sears, and his mother Judy, he said, “I would say my mum is the most patient teacher. She is brilliant at teaching kids, and they listen to her much more than to me.”

As for his next endeavor, it will be fascinating to see if he can add yet another medal to his Olympic gold tally and win big in Paris one last time.
