Alexander Zverev is a player who has overcome many obstacles to realize his dream of becoming a player. The German was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was a toddler. Ever since he has experienced trouble in many facets of his life due to the condition. However, the issues are not over, as he has once again been unfairly chastised for the disorder, this time at French Open.
For Zverev, harsh words for his diabetes brings up past trauma as the player was bullied for it when he was young. Similar circumstances are taking place at Roland Garros as he is encountering issues with taking medicines on his normal schedule.

As Zverev aims to go far in French Open, the German needs to routinely take insulin injections for Type 1 diabetes. However, the routine has turned upside down in the clay major as officials have issues with him taking his medicines. Zverev shared the problems in a recent press conference. As per the former number 2, he has no issues with taking insulin during matches at other ATP tournaments.
At the French Open, he was asked to take his injections off-court, but they would count it as a toilet break. Sascha has to take insulin four to five times in a five-set match, and players only get two toilet breaks. Therefore, it would mean he would have to relinquish a life-saving medicine for rules. He added that he can take it off-court as it takes a few seconds at most without it being considered a break. He received denial once again.
This led to a discussion between the officials and the player, which seemed to make him more frustrated. The organizers also said that it looked abnormal therefore, they could not allow him to take it on court.
Zverev who published in 2022 that he has type 1 diabetes since he is 3 years old and started a foundation was asked in german press about the discussion today. He said other than at ATP tournaments here he is not allowed to inject Insulin on court "cause it looks weird"

“If I need to do it outside, I’m happy to do it there, it just takes five seconds. Just let me do it, better on-court. But they said it looks weird when I do this on court. But this is not a clever take because if I don’t do it, my life will be in danger,” Zverev told the tournament coordinators.
His pleading fell on deaf ears as the official once again told him it looked weird. “I said, ‘How does it look weird? That I dope myself?’ This discussion makes no sense.”
